Within walking distance of the historic centre of this ancient cathedral city - England’s original capital - this welcoming community of stylish later living homes enjoys views over gorgeous grounds and mature trees. Winchester has a very strong civic identity and pride, reflected in its outstanding cultural and culinary scene. (Where else in England could you dine at a restaurant in a 600-year-old building once owned by Henry VIII?) It’s a place where quality of living is given utmost priority and, with the New Forest and South Downs Way on your doorstep, it’s a perfect jumping-off point for many happy explorations.
The shared spaces bring daily opportunities to build friendships and strengthen bonds with your neighbours, from the club-room atmosphere of the lounge to the inviting outdoor spaces.
The lounge has a very friendly but sophisticated atmosphere, with plenty of luxurious seating to sink into. It’s an intentionally flexible space, so it can host a whole range of gatherings, big and small, from family celebrations to cheese and wine evenings, to film nights and book groups. The choice is yours.
Great care was taken to protect the beautiful mature trees on the site and the results are wonderful, with landscaping and planting that’s designed to delight the eye all year round. The sun-trap terrace flows off the residents’ lounge and has ample comfortable seating, making it a perfect spot to enjoy fresh air and fine weather with friends and neighbours.
The bright and well-equipped shared kitchen is open plan to the residents’ lounge and is the perfect spot to rendezvous with your neighbours to prepare snacks, light meals and drinks. It also comes in very useful when larger social gatherings are held in the lounge, or out on the terrace.
Life in Winchester
With castles, an 11th-century cathedral, stately homes, museums, theatres, galleries, Michelin-starred dining and a lively street market, Winchester really is the city with everything. Including great sporting facilities, from the popular - golf and tennis - to the more niche, like indoor bowling and badminton. There’s also a proud literary history – Jane Austen and John Keats both lived here and dedicated Janeites can visit nearby Chawton House, her family home. That spirit lives on with the annual book festival.
On your doorstep
You’re a five minute drive from the centre of the city (or a 30-minute walk, if you’re feeling energetic) with all its amenities. London is an hour on the train or a half-hour journey can take you to the heart of the New Forest. Southampton Airport and Portsmouth Ferry Port are just a short drive or train ride away when you fancy a break abroad.

"After discussing with my son the option to rent, we thought it would be a sensible decision for me. Renting a home comes with less responsibility, yet there was still the option to buy the new home in the future if I wished." Pegasus Homes Resident - Steepleton
