Celebrating a decade of community living at Atlantic Rise

On 19th March 2025, Chris Powell and members of the Pegasus Homes management team joined the residents at Atlantic Rise in Bude, as they celebrated the 10 year anniversary since its launch. 

Atlantic Rise holds a very special place in the history of Pegasus Homes, being the first of a new generation of homes for later living, and the first of the new communities to celebrate its 10 year anniversary.

Located in a picturesque location on the stunning Cornish Coast, with uninterrupted views of the Atlantic Ocean, Summerleaze Beach and the Summerleaze Downs. Atlantic Rise truly is a dream retirement destination. Comprising a mix of 29 one and two-bedroom apartments, Atlantic Rise was designed to sit in harmony with the natural beauty of the Cornish landscape that surrounds it, with distinctive features that enhance its coastal location.

Large balconies together with extensive glazing and large living rooms make the most of the spectacular views. The timber cladding together with locally quarried stone are characteristic of this region and root the building in its natural setting. 

More than the building itself, it is the people that make a community, and what a community there is at Atlantic Rise. 

One of the current residents has personal connections to the site, with her grandfather responsible for building the original Headland Pavillion and the infamous dancefloor at The Headland Club, known as the best dancefloor in the South West. It subsequently became known as Carizma Nightclub and JJ’s Bar before its closure in 2007.

The residents at Atlantic Rise past and present have always done so much for the local community and the close link to Cornwall Air Ambulance has been a constant over the last decade. Residents have also staunchly supported the RNLI, through volunteering and fundraising. 

Weekly events such as coffee mornings and evening sundowners admiring the incredible sunsets over the Atlantic ocean, as well as BBQs in the shared garden, have helped to foster new friendships and a sense of community spirit.
