Finding Joy and Inspiration in Later Living

At Pegasus Homes, we believe that the years after 60 can be some of the most joyfully anticipated in life. Ageing shouldn’t be seen as negative or something to be scared of, instead, everyone should have the power to feel inspired to do what they wish to and to seek the joy in later living.
To mark International Women’s Day this month, throughout the week we will be sharing some stories from our inspiring residents, who share a common determination to stay inspired in later life. This dispels the myth that retirement is a time of slowing down or reflecting, rather a time to look ahead to new things and ideas. Many of our residents take on new and exciting activities in their communities, as well as appreciating the positives in the everyday. Whether big or small, from outdoor swimming to joining a book club, having the motivation to look ahead and seek adventure allows us to remain inspired to make the most of our lives.
When we asked Tricia how she views her later life so far, she describes how she has had lots of adventures with her family on lovely holiday breaks. While closer to home, every Monday, she joins a local walking group, exploring the hidden trails of her neighborhood and forging new friendships along the way. Not only does being immersed in nature through activities like leisurely strolls significantly improve our mental health, but it also provides a rich source of inspiration.

How do our residents stay inspired
Sue has had a life full of wonderful travelling experiences, and refuses to consider that ageing has to put a stop to enjoying new experiences and travel. She explains that she 'feels 40', highlighting that ‘you don’t know you’re getting older’. Sue still takes inspiration from her surroundings, through her regular travelling.
“I still enjoy travelling, and love to go on group trips as well as travelling solo!” - Sue
Finding joy in later living
All Pegasus Homes communities have a whole host of opportunities available to residents, to empower them to feel inspired and enjoy themselves in this chapter of their lives. From gardening in communal allotments to inspiring guest speakers hosted on-site, wellness activities and exercise classes; there is something for all interests. Our Cobham Bowers community has a purpose-built yoga studio space and our Steepleton residents can enjoy all year round swimming in the heated hydrotherapy pool indoors, or the outdoor swimming pond.
