Hampstead Village has the festive season covered
01 December 2020
The Christmas lights are on in Hampstead, giving the historic village a festive and warm glow. Whilst many of the celebratory events have been cancelled this year, the High Street is still a magical place to be and with an array of exceptional local and independent retailers, the perfect spot to enjoy some festive shopping, whether ordering your favourite food and treats or finding a perfect last-minute gift. Here is a round up of some of some of our favourite shops:
Deck the halls
Filling your home with flowers at this time of year is wonderful and Hampstead Village has no shortage of florists to choose from. On Flask Walk you will find Galton Flowers which has been trading since 1948 and opened its Flask Walk shop in 2013. Their stunning arrangements will look marvellous in any room. Whilst next door is Judy Green’s Garden Store with a beautiful array of potted plants and garden items, perfect for any gardening related gifts or just to brighten your own home with some spring bulbs. Hampstead never does anything by halves so there is a second florist, Hampstead Florist to also check out in the fantastic Community Centre on the High Street.
Food glorious food
With two butchers, two greengrocers, arguably London’s best fishmonger and an array of patisserie, boulangerie and other goodies, no matter how you spend the festive season you will guarantee to eat well living in Hampstead. If turkey is not your preference then head to Hampstead Community Market, home to Hampstead Seafood. There you will also find Meat Naturally with a selection of delicious organic and free range, ethically reared and traceable meat to enjoy as well as Jenkins and Son greengrocer. Round the corner on Heath Street is Hampstead Butcher and Providore and another greengrocer, Artichoke, both offering mouth-watering and well-sourced produce. With Boulangerie Bon Matin, Paul and Melrose and Morgan and more, shopping for food this Christmas will be every bit as enjoyable as eating it.
Bang those pots and pans
Whether it is the perfect cookware to rustle up a delicious festive meal or the ideal gift between Borough Kitchen, Lords and Le Creuset, there is plenty to choose from in the Village to please all keen bakers and cooks from kitchen Kings to cocktail Queens. At Borough Kitchen, for the cook who has everything, they also have a cookery school, so why not book a loved one on to one of their classes for an experience to hone their skills? Classes range from Thai cooking to knife techniques and pasta filling to bread baking.
Toast the season in style
Many of the shops we have already mentioned also stock a range of discerning drinks but for the finest selection of wines, still and sparkling, vintage and non-vintage and spirits there’s Jeraboams. At the heart of some of London’s oldest neighbourhoods for over 30 years this is a wonderful wine shop where they do more than just wine, offering a perfect selection for entertaining, gifts or just relaxing at home with a glass of your favourite tipple and a good film.
The pampered pet
Make sure your dog or cat does not have to miss out over the festive season as they too can eat the best food the Village has to offer, like a Prince’s dog or cat in fact as Lily’s Kitchen is by appointment to HRH The Prince of Wales. Offering a delectable selection of pet food and even a range of Christmas pet foods for your four-legged furry friends or an ideal gift for a friend’s beloved pet.
