Renaissance Wimborne supports local school
08 January 2021
Renaissance Wimborne, a collection of later living homes created by Lifestory, pledged its support to Queen Elizabeth’s School over the holidays by sponsoring its Christmas carol concert and end of term awards ceremony.
The Christmas carol concert on 15th December formed part of the ‘Performing Arts in the Community’ module completed by BTEC Performing Arts students. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the concert was held virtually instead of its past location, Wimborne Minster, with digital copies being shared with 11 care homes in the region. Renaissance sponsored the printing of the hymn books, which were distributed to all care homes so residents could also sing along.
Renaissance also sponsored a special Musical Theatre Award at the school’s annual end of term ceremony to reward an outstanding student for their hard work and talent. The winner was Reed Gyorkey, who has been in every musical for the past four years and has gone on to study Acting at Chichester University.
Luanne Ellis, Area Sales Manager at Renaissance Wimborne, said: “We were delighted to continue supporting Queen Elizabeth’s School with their extra-curricular activities. We know how difficult it has been for schools to fundraise during the pandemic and are so pleased that we were able to help. Homeowners and rental members at Renaissance Wimborne enjoyed watching the Christmas carol concert socially-distanced from the communal lounge.”
Alex Chester, Head of Drama at Queen Elizabeth’s School, added: “We are incredibly grateful to Renaissance for their continuous support especially during these testing times. Despite the challenges faced in recent times, we feel it important to come together, work with the local community and celebrate our hardworking students. Renaissance’s support has made a huge difference to the school and the students are really appreciative.”
Reed Gyorkey, winner of the Musical Theatre Award, added: “I’m passionate about performing and am so pleased to have received this award! I’m currently studying Acting at Chichester University and hope to one day be on the stage professionally.”
