The sun's out, the birds are singing – it's officially Spring! Today (20 March) marks the start of longer, brighter days, and we're ready to embrace all the joy this season brings.

How is the first day of Spring marked?

The first day of Spring is marked by the Spring Equinox. This happens every March 20 or 21 (or 19 March if a leap year). It marks the first day of astronomical spring in the Northern Hemisphere when the sun crosses the celestial equator, resulting in nearly equal daylight and nighttime hours. So days feel much longer and brighter!

Many of us see Spring as a fresh new start, and with a spring in our step, here are some ways we are embracing the brighter season!

Spring Clean

With the arrival of the new season many of us look to brighten up our homes with a clean, re-organise, declutter. Whether big or small changes, a spring clean can help refresh our home and minds. Start by decluttering kitchen cupboards and organising for efficiency. As you switch from Winter to Spring wardrobes, clear out unwanted items. Give your bathroom a boost with fresh accessories and a quick tidy. Finally, infuse your home with spring's cheerful energy by adding bright colours through cushions, flowers, and artwork.

Gardening Galore

As temperatures begin to rise, it's natural to want to freshen up our outside spaces. With a Pegasus Home, the burden of arduous gardening tasks are taken away. This doesn’t mean you have to miss out on the joys of spring blooms. Transform your balcony into a vibrant oasis with easily manageable pot plants. Introduce a burst of colour from flowering pots, or enjoy the fresh scent of herbs grown right at your fingertips. You can also bring the outside in with a vase of mixed, colourful flowers or an array of leafy, green house plants.

The rewards of gardening extend far beyond a beautiful outdoor space. By engaging with nature, you can naturally elevate your mood, cultivate inner peace, strengthen your self esteem, and can help reduce feelings of anxiety.

The Great Outdoors

Longer days mean more opportunities! Take a scenic walk, cycle through local parks, or plan a day trip to somewhere new, to make the most of the warmer, longer days. These extra hours of sunlight also provide a welcome boost to our wellbeing.

Our communities have fantastic surroundings, with plenty of green spaces to explore this Spring. Our Belle Vue community is a short walk from the iconic Hampstead Heath, a sprawling, ancient park in north London, offering a unique blend of wild landscapes and panoramic city views. Or for a city wander, residents of The Vincent, can discover the charm of Clifton Village, termed the ‘most beautiful’ shopping quarter of Bristol.

Friendships

Spring is a time for connection. Arrange a coffee date, join a local club, or simply enjoy a chat with neighbours. Many of our communities have both inside and outside communal spaces, for example the walled garden in our Cobham Bowers community provides the perfect spot for an alfresco lunch with friends and neighbours.

Fresh Dishes

Spring's arrival is the perfect time to refresh your palate with fresh, seasonal dishes. Embrace the vibrant flavors of the season by exploring new recipes featuring produce like asparagus, radishes, spinach, and rhubarb, all readily available in the UK during this time. These ingredients are ideal for crafting the perfect additions to your first picnic of the year. To truly savor the experience, take a leisurely stroll through local farmers' markets, where you can hand-pick the freshest ingredients. For those in our Bath Leat community, the added bonus of having the ‘UK's first farmers market’ just steps away every Saturday morning makes enjoying spring's culinary delights even more accessible.
