01 July 2021
Posted under: Hobbies & interests
Situated alongside the River Thames in Buckinghamshire, Bourne End is a picturesque village which comes alive during the warmer months. Whether you’re interested in trying out a sport or simply sit back and watch, there’s lots of sports to enjoy this summer.
Bourne End is also home to Wharf Lane, our desirable collection of one- and two-bedroom homes. Owners and tenants benefit from spacious, light-filled apartments, beautifully maintained gardens, and a dedicated Lifehost who’s on hand to ensure life at Bourne End is as easy and carefree as possible.
Sailing
Upper Thames Sailing Club is a local sailing club which serves up fun for all the family. The season runs from March to December, with races on Sundays and Wednesday evenings which spectators can watch from the riverbank. For those who would like to learn how to sail, the Club also holds training courses with their knowledgeable, Royal Yachting Association certified instructors.
Swimming
At Westhorpe Lake, Marlow Open Water Swim encourages visitors to safely take to the water and enjoy the peace and serenity of open water swimming. There are three courses to choose from, ranging from 400m to 1500m, whilst the experienced team are on hand to ensure swimmers have the best possible experience. Marlow Open Water Swim is open on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays from 6.00am-9.00am, and Mondays and Wednesdays, 5.30pm-8.00pm.
Golf
Across the River from Wharf Lane, Winter Hill Golf Club is a scenic golf course with a fascinating history. The land was initially bought in 1938 by John Lewis, who intended to turn it into a golf course but unfortunately the WWII Dig for Victory campaign meant that the land had to be used for agricultural use instead. After Lewis’ passing in 1963, it was decided his vision would be honoured and the Club opened its doors in 1976. Today, Winter Hill offers a beautiful 18-hole course, putting green, shop and Clubhouse, open to the wider public and private members.
Walking
Wharf Lane owners and tenants are very fortunate to have lots of fantastic outdoor space on their doorstep. A popular spot for a weekend walk is Cock Marsh, a large National Trust site home to grazing cows and a variety of wildflowers. Chiltern Hills AONB is also within easy reach, where there’s multiple walking trails and spectacular viewpoints to enjoy.
