Top 3 walks in the New Forest
17 November 2020
Located in Brockenhurst in the heart of the New Forest is Holmwood, our collection of 22 one and two-bedroom apartments and two cottages. Its enchanting surroundings provide many wonderful opportunities to connect with nature and soak up the great outdoors.
Jubilee Grove Trail - Best for wildlife watchers
Starting at Bolderwood car park, the Jubilee Grove Trail takes walkers past Bolderwood Deer Sanctuary, where herds of fallow deer can be seen. There’s a purpose-built viewing platform so visitors can get a great view of the deer in the meadow. Those who visit in the early afternoon between April – September can also see the deer being fed by a New Forest ranger. The rest of the one-mile loop takes visitors past beautiful, towering trees, the oldest of which date back to 1860.
Tall Trees Trail - Best for families
The Tall Trees Trail takes visitors around the Forestry Commission's Blackwater Arboretum, an idyllic place with trees from all over the world. Visitors can see towering Redwoods, more commonly found in Northern California, as well as majestic Conifers which were planted some 170 years ago. Along the trail are a number of sensory information boards, where little ones can learn interesting facts about the different types of trees.
Beaulieu Food Trail - Best for foodies
Beginning in the centre of Brockenhurst, the 2.2-mile Beaulieu Food Trail follows the scenic Beaulieu River, where there’s cosy cafés, organic farm shops and foraging opportunities along the way. Walkers can indulge in handmade chocolate truffles at the Beaulieu Chocolate Studio, pick up fruit and veg growing tips from Patrick’s Patch at Fairweather’s Garden Centre, or purchase fresh, local produce from Beaulieu Organic Farm Shop. Autumn is a particularly good time to visit, when the bushes lining the river are full of blackberries and sloes to be picked.
