Two Sisters - The wonderful family-run cafe in Crowthorne
05 November 2021
The Two Sisters Cafe is just a stone's throw away from our Renaissance Crowthorne Community on Duke’s Ride. We love to champion and support local businesses in the area of our communities which is why at our Summer Party Event at our Crowthorne Community, we reached out to Two Sisters Cafe for the catering and got to know them.
We sat down with Kathryn, one half of Two Sisters Cafe, to talk about the cafe, the Crowthorne community and their upcoming ventures.
Could you tell us a bit about Two Sisters Cafe?
Two Sisters is an independent café, with a BIG personality. Our food is freshly prepared to order, made from local ingredients and we aim to serve the best food in terms of quality and at a good price. We want our customers to love what they eat and come back time and time again. The café itself is vibrant and chatty, just like our home. Music playing, people chatting and laughing. We want everyone to feel welcome, and we like to get to know our customers.
How did Two Sisters Cafe come to life?
Two Sisters was originally owned by two other sisters, and during lockdown the previous owners decided they didn't want to come back so we decided to take it on. It already had a great reputation, with great, loyal customers so we decided to keep the name and reopen. We've changed a lot since then, but we've been on a journey and our customers have been a big part of that journey.
What have you found is most popular?
Smoothies and Iced Coffees. They are by far the most popular things this year. But we introduced Salads, Iced Tea's, new cakes and fresh bread.. It's all been amazing.
How did lockdown affect business?
Lockdown was actually an extraordinary time for hospitality. We saw an increase in sales and footfall (even though we were operating from the door for the most part) but we became part of peoples routine, a place to meet and stop by. A treat for others. Times were tough and just having a nice coffee, a cake or simply food that had been prepared for you was a luxury. We also diversified to new things, we added a bakery and started to sell fresh eggs from a farm in Newbury. Which proved so popular as people didn't want to go to supermarkets so we had queues up the road. We even got calls from people who had elderly relatives living locally and we delivered fresh bread to them weekly as they were unable to visit!
Can you tell us some more about your new venture - Two Sisters Wine bar?
The wine bar is a fairly new venture. It's ever changing - we hope it grows! We have live music Fridays every other week - which have been so popular. We are booked up until Christmas. It is a great place for local people to meet, chat and enjoy some simple food. We've had wonderful feedback from our customers.
Anything exciting upcoming for Two Sisters Café?
We are about to open a new location, which is on the High Street. This is for our hospitality arm of the business. Catering from 2-250 people with cold buffets, afternoon tea boxes, sandwich platters and grazing tables / boxes and much more. It will be by appointment only so we can cater for those larger events without using the café, this means the team can prioritise the customers coming into the café.
And lastly - what do you love most about Crowthorne?
We LOVE Crowthorne, we live here and we've built our lives here. It has so much space, which over the past 18 months has proven to be such a wonderful thing, during lockdown we got lost in the woods for hours without seeing anyone. We love the community here - the high street has everything you need. When we have snow days you realise that you've got everything on your doorstep! It's a great place to live and work!
Our welcoming Crowthorne community comprises 32 luxurious apartments, each with secure parking, and complemented by fantastic shared facilities including a lounge, beautifully landscaped gardens and a guest suite.
