Welcome back to Falmouth!
13 February 2016
Falmouth has an eclectic mix of boutiques, eateries, cafes, and independent local shops. Many popular local businesses and establishments have started to open their doors again with all the safety measures in place. Whether you want to browse or make a beeline to your favourite shop, here are some of the places we’re looking forward to re-visiting in the next few weeks. For regular updates visit Falmouth Nub News.
Enjoy outdoor food shopping
The Falmouth Farmers Market on The Moor has returned allowing Falmouth food shoppers to shop for delicious local produce, in the fresh air. There’s fresh bread from the Cornish Mill & Bakehouse, fish from Kernowsashimi, fruit and veg, meat, cheese, Heatherbell Honey and of course Cornish Seasalt. The outdoor market takes place every Tuesday from 9am-1pm.
Great news for Falmouth’s knitters
The Wool Basket has been selling yarn in Cornwall for over 30 years and Falmouth knitters will be delighted to hear it has opened again, with a fresh coat of paint! While social distancing measures will need to be observed, the shop will be opening as normal and all the regular services provided. So if you’ve been itching to get your hands on some new yarns, shades and patterns like Girlfriend Chunky or Jewelspun Aran or maybe you’ll be tempted by Temptation Chunky, a mohair yarn, then pop along and you can also have a look at the lovely new Autumn stock. The Wool Basket is open Mon-Sat 9.30-5pm.
Treat yourself to a coffee and cake
The Muddy Beach Café at Jubilee Wharf, Penryn will be opening its doors again on 1st July Tuesday to Saturday, 10am to 2pm for takeaway coffee and tasty treats like cinnamon buns and crab sandwiches. Customers will also be able to order online and then collect from the café and there will be clear stencilling to support safe social distancing. Once restrictions are relaxed further the café’s lovely decking area will also make a welcome return.
A spot of retail therapy
Another shop which has reopened is homegrown Cornish brand Sea Salt. Like other places that are beginning to reopen, the owners have taken every precaution for safe shopping and are offering a limited number of private shopping appointments for the first and last half hour of the day. As well as women’s clothing, the store stocks Leach Pottery homewares which are all designed at their studios in Cornwall, overlooking Falmouth Bay. Opening times are Mon-Sat 10am-4.30pm and Sun 11am-5pm.
The ‘Cream’ of Cornwall
Not the clotted variety. Cream was created to epitomise the beauty and diversity of Cornwall and the homeware and gift shop, also on Church Street, has reopened. From beautiful cushions to update or brighten your sitting room to colourful glassware to enjoy a drink on the terrace or fun and quirky kitchenware, Cream is a cornucopia of beautiful products for the home. Safety measures have been put in place and private appointments are available too.
