The historic Queen Victoria House in the heart of Bristol’s Redland district is not only home to our Vincent community but it’s also home to The Vincent Kitchen by Cleverchefs, which opened last month. A delicious new addition to the Bristol dining scene, right on the doorstep for The Vincent homeowners. In the light and stunningly designed restaurant, overlooking the beautiful arboretum, diners can enjoy a delicious, locally sourced menu. Tempted? We spoke to Emma, The Vincent Kitchen’s manager to find out more.
How has it been going since The Vincent Kitchen opened?
It has been great. The restaurant has been really popular and already we have a lot of regulars who have visited us multiple times in the past month. It was our one-month birthday recently and we cannot believe how quickly time has flown by, as they say time flies when you are having fun which it really has been. It took us a couple of weeks for us to find our feet, work the processes and make the amendments to suit. We are still learning and developing each day and week.
Can you introduce us to the team at The Vincent Kitchen?
We have a small team, Dave our head chef is excelling at creating beautiful, delicious food and is so friendly to all the customers in the open kitchen environment. Dave is supported by Gareth who is new to the business but has hit the ground running. We also have a small intimate front of house team including Shivam, Chloe, Kiara, Alex, Lara and Willeminja who all live locally. As a team we have built and strengthened our processes in the last few weeks, developing service skills and operational changes to increase the service flow for the restaurants.
How would you define the restaurant experience at The Vincent Kitchen – what can diners expect?
The restaurant is light, airy but warming, we have beautiful bay windows overlooking the beautiful arboretum garden, a plush private dining space and slick black tables with burgundy velvet chairs. It all creates a very high end feel to the restaurant which matches the service and food that we offer.
The Vincent Kitchen is joining a multicultural, vibrant and independent food scene in one of the best places to eat out in the UK. What stands out about Bristol’s food scene for you?
New to the scene we want to offer something hearty, beautifully presented and most importantly delicious, taking classic dishes and redeveloping them to create different twists. Our most popular dishes recently have been the ham and pea scotch egg, beautiful ham hock with a runny free-range duck egg centre. We also have a twist on a standard scallop dish which has really taken Bristolians interest; seared scallops with a sweet curry sauce, fennel and onion bhaji.
Do you have a current favourite experimental ingredient or cooking technique?
Dave's classic phrase is the old ways are the best ways, with new innovative slants on each dish. Dave is a very experienced chef and has developed skills in so many areas, his aim is good produce cooked well, with respect for the produce he is working with. The techniques have not changed but the thought process and development of the dishes is where he excels the most. He enjoys using the processes of brining, curing, fermenting, and marinating to bring the best out of his ingredients.
