Wokingham was named the 10th best place to live in the Halifax’s Quality of Life survey, released at the beginning of this year. The survey looked at a range of indicators which contribute to standard of living, such as lifestyle, well-being, leisure and environment. So, we’re taking a closer look at Wokingham and why, year after year, the town makes the top 10 in the Halifax survey, making Fleur-de Lis Wokingham a number one choice.
With its location in the Berkshire countryside, Wokingham offers its residents a winning combination of the best of urban and rural life right on their doorstep. Shops, restaurants, cafes plus an array of events and community groups, mean there is something for everyone to do in the town.
The annual food and arts event, Wokingham Festival, perhaps stands out among the free local events that bring the town together and get people talking to each other. In addition, the Wokingham Music Club offers gigs for all musical tastes. The month of May sees a month long celebration of arts and culture, Wokingham Culture Month, with many of the events run by groups that have regular weekly or monthly activities.
Wokingham also boasts an award winning winery with the stunning Stanlake Park Wine Estate, offering tours of the vineyard and winery, samples of their English Sparkling Wine. Another hotspot on the doorstep is Wokingham Theatre where you can catch one of the eight major productions the community theatre group puts on each year.
To enjoy the great outdoors that surround Wokingham, you could head to Dinton Pastures Country Park. The 450 acres with seven lakes, two rivers, woodland and meadows can be enjoyed year-round and it hosts a Park Run if you’re feeling more energetic. Or there’s the exotically named California Country Park with Longmoor Lake offering walking paths on its banks to stroll around. Enjoy a pit stop in the nearby cafe Jackson’s.
To cap it all off is Nirvana Spa, the incredible palatial day spa offering an endless list of treatments. There’s a spa garden, tepidarium, crystal treatment suite, thermal suite, wellness suite, rasul area and a restaurant.
So, it seems when it comes to lifestyle, well-being, leisure and environment, Wokingham deserves its top ten spot.
